These frames are designed to accompany our Woolies kits. All frames are made to order (both painted and unpainted) so there is a 4-6 week lead time on these frames. Whilst the frames are not glazed, there is space in the recess to add glazing. We recommend using as high quality UV protecting, anti-reflective glass as you can to avoid having reflections interfere with the appearance of your needlework. Or alternatively, as I do, you can leave it unglazed and keep it in an area outside of direct sunlight.

Please note: Our unpainted and painted frames have a flat outer edge rather than ridged (as shown in Calypso and Nautilus). Refer to the picture of Temerity / Steadfast / Bay of Biscay / Sovereign of the Seas for examples of the finished flat frames.

The frames come with a piece of backing board and an identical internal board, which is used to mount your woolie around. There is a video which shows the process of mounting the woolie onto the board using a stitching technique. This can be a challenging part of the process but if you find it too hard, then most framers will be able to mount the piece for you in this manner.

Please be aware that the frames are hand-painted to order over 4-6 weeks. If you order a kit at the time of your frame purchase, this will be dispatched once the frame is ready. If you would like to receive the kit sooner, please place this as a separate order.

We have worked with an wonderful Yorkshire art framer to produce these bespoke double layered frames. There are 6 different designs to choose from and the finished frame is either coated in a matt wax or painted in egg shell paint therefore has a soft sheen but is not glossy.

An embroidery mounting kit will also be included, which includes the mount board, all the push pins and framing pins required and a guide on how to mount your embroidery. There is also a video in the how-to guides section of the website to show you this process.

The frame will fit The Fables or any other A4 piece of art. You could also add a mount and choose to put the musicians or the camels in here. Let me know if you are choosing to do this and I will make sure you have the right mounting kit.

The frames are not glazed as I believe this is the best way to present embroidery to appreciate all the detail and textures: none of the framed pieces in my home are glazed! The embroidery will be perfectly safe like this however, if you are choosing to hang the embroidery somewhere steamy (i.e. a bathroom), there will be space in the frame to add glazing. You will be able to get glass cut to size at any framers and I would highly recommend going with the museum quality glass if choosing to do this.

Note: The Fisherman frame design has been slightly improved from the design here to have a smoother finish than photographed here.
